Cistercian Friends of Mt. St. Mary’s Abbey

Our group began as a larger group invited by the Sisters to learn about lectio divina. From this larger gathering several people expressed the wish to meet on a more regular basis, to begin to learn the Rule of St. Benedict and to explore Cistercian spirituality. From this beginning, we have become a small community of approximately 17 members. We meet about once a month to share prayer, lectio, and study led by three Sisters who are at every gathering and other members of the community who intermittently join us. We have a weekend retreat at least once a year. At this time in our development, we do not have formal statutes or a formal formation plan. We are inspired and fed by the liturgies of the Eucharist and Office and try to incorporate into our daily lives the simplicity and beauty of Cistercian spirituality inspired by the Rule of St. Benedict and regular encounter with Scriptures. We are grateful to the Mt. St. Mary`s community who support us with prayers and presence and who share their monastic love and learning with us
